The United States vs. Spain

Posted on Updated on

Another blog post that I’ve wanted to make for a long time is a blog post comparing Spain and the United States. I wanted to do a side-by-side comparison of some basic facts about each country. This was largely inspired by a lot of the things I studied in my Geografía de Europa class this past semester. Even though we did focus a lot on the physical geography of European countries, we also delved into human geography and discussed population demographics, government/politics, economics, etc. I wanted to directly compare the US and Spain in a “just the facts” kind of way.

So, here’s my attempt at putting all of this information in one place! The vast majority of these statistics/facts are published in the CIA World Factbook. I’ve included several direct quotes from their website because I think they summarized several points quite well. Other sources I used included Wikipedia (of course), the International Business Times, Eurostat, and the World Health Organization. I learned a lot and had some fun putting this together, so I hope you enjoy it, too!

Bonus! When I was reading about the United States’ dependent territories, I found another good video made by CGPGrey on the subject. (I’ve posted some of his videos before!) I thought this was interesting, as I was previously only aware of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands as American “overseas territories”. Turns out there are quite a few!
